The exact 9-step checklist BlueBee runs on every site. Written for owners of plumbing, HVAC, electrical, landscaping, roofing, cleaning, pest control and every other home, field, and local service business.

Why local SEO is different

Most SEO advice you'll find on the internet is written for e-commerce or B2B SaaS. It's useless to a one-truck plumber. Local SEO is about ranking for "[service] [city]" and "[service] near me" queries — high-intent, geographically bounded, and dominated by Google's local algorithm (a different beast than the main one).

Win local SEO and your phone rings. Lose it and your business runs on referrals and luck.

The 9-step BlueBee checklist

1

One H1 per page, with the exact target search

Every page on your site should target one search. Your homepage targets your trade ("Plumber in Austin, TX"). Each service page targets one service. Each area page targets one city. The H1 is the highest-weight on-page signal Google has — treat it like real estate.

2

URL structure that mirrors the search

Use /drain-cleaning/ not /services/page-7?id=drain. Clean, keyword-aware URLs are easier for users to recognize and for Google to index. Hierarchy matters: /drain-cleaning/austin/ tells Google this is a city-specific service page.

3

Service pages for every service

Your homepage cannot rank for every service you sell. One page per service is the floor, not the ceiling. Drain cleaning, water heater install, leak repair, repipes — each deserves its own ~600-word page with internal links to your area pages.

4

Service-area pages for every city you cover

Covered in depth in the service-area pages guide. Short version: one URL per city, unique local copy, internal links to your service pages, LocalBusiness schema with areaServed.

5

Schema.org structured data

Schema is the metadata Google reads to understand what your page is about. Every BlueBee page includes LocalBusiness, Service, and FAQPage JSON-LD. The result: rich snippets in search results (stars, prices, FAQ accordions) and a clearer ranking signal.

6

Core Web Vitals: speed is a ranking signal

Google measures three speed metrics: LCP (largest contentful paint, target under 2.5s), CLS (cumulative layout shift, target under 0.1), and INP (interaction to next paint, target under 200ms). Sites that pass all three rank higher. BlueBee sites pass all three by default.

7

Mobile-first design

Google indexes the mobile version of your site, not the desktop one. If your site is desktop-first and "responsive as an afterthought", you're handing Google a worse copy of your content to rank. Mobile-first is non-negotiable.

8

Internal linking that flows authority

The single most ignored on-page lever. Each of your service pages should link to relevant area pages. Each area page should link back to relevant service pages and to neighboring city pages. The result: a tight internal-link graph that distributes Google's authority across your whole site.

9

Sitemap + robots + Search Console

Tell Google what to index. A clean sitemap.xml listing every URL on your site, a robots.txt that allows crawlers but blocks admin paths. Submit through Google Search Console so indexing happens in days, not months.

What we don't do (and why)

We're transparent about scope. BlueBee handles everything you can control on your own website — structure, copy, schema, speed, indexing. We don't create or manage your Google Business Profile, run review-collection campaigns, or buy backlinks. Those are off-site signals that depend on your customers and your own outreach. We connect your existing Google profile to your new site so everything stays consistent, and we leave the rest to you.

The result

The average BlueBee customer ranks in the top 3 for their core "[service] [home city]" search within 90 days of launch, and breaks into multiple city rankings within 6 months. No backlinks, no monthly retainers, no ongoing SEO fees. Just on-page work, done right, once.
